BUCHANAN Memorial Hall Committee, the Buchanan Wheel Community Wellbeing group and the East Loch Lomond Community Trust have joined together to begin the process of creating a Local Place Plan (LPP).

The motivation comes from the increasing loss of facilities and the desire to create a planned environment to meet current and future community needs.

A Local Place Plan is created by the community for the community.

The first step towards such a plan is form a steering group representing ALL of the ELLCT area and invite members of the community be part of this group.

Place plans are a new type of plan, stemming from the Scottish Government’s promotion of ‘place-making’ which involves using planning tools to create better, more attractive places that work well for their communities and the environment. More information can be found at https://www.ourplace.scot/home/local-place-plans

One example of a LPP is from Scalloway, Shetland which shows how ambitious and powerful these plans can be in achieving community objectives. You can find out all about Scalloway’s plan at  Scalloway Local Place Plan

The community will be invited to contribute and prioritise possibilities in various ways including public meetings and online surveys.

National Park planners and development officers will be advising and supporting throughout the process.
